Dr Sanjay Kumar Dhua, Deputy General Manager, and S. Mitra Mazumdar AGM of RDCIS, SAIl, Ranchi bagged the prestigious Metallurgist of the Year 2016 (Ferrous)and (Environment, Energy & Waste Management) category respectively in a glittering ceremony just on Monday at IIT KANPUR in the National Metallurgists' Day (NMD) Awards 2016 ceremony. Award was conferred by Minister of steel Vishnu Deo Sai in pr esence of Joint Secretary Steel and President Indian Institute of metals.
Dr Sanjay Kumar Dhua has made significant contributions in the area of development and commercialization of value added steels like i) HSlA-80 steel for Indian Navy ii) High corrosion resistant ( HCR) TMT rebars fulfilling stringent requirements of various market segments in SAIl Plants. His innovation in alloy design, process optimization and micro structural engineering has also resulted in development of few futuristic steels. He has also developed special colour etching technique for revealing phases prominently. He contributed immensely for developing understanding in many critical failures.
The Award is conferred on S Mitra Mazumder for his significant contribution to the Environment, Energy conservation and waste management research encompassing development of systems, processes, methods, technology strategies, interventions and innovations for improving plant productivity in steel making water circuit through treatment process improvement while simultaneously effecting reduction in make up water consumption and plant water blowdown.
