The nip in the air was persistent, but it could not deter denizens of Bokaro from showing up in large numbers to participate, and cheer others running in the half marathon, held here on Sunday. Truly Bokaro showing an exemplary path of Sports & Health Culturing through Sports for all under its Global Active City Mission ,On January 22 SAIL Bokaro Half Marathon accredited by “Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS)” under the umbrella of Global Active Partner City drive & commemoration of SAIL's Golden Jubilee Year was a grand success with mass participation of 2500 people in different categories where entire city Sunday morning enthusiastically ran with Dr Sunita Godara (1992 Asian Marathon champion) on the road giving this city a quantified identity of True Global Active city.
While appreciating the team work of BSL the force behind City getting reenergised Director incharge BSL Amarendu Prakash flagged off half Marathon from the MKM Stadium where by witnessing the electrifying atmosphere DIC assured that next year this marathon will get continued with bigger format and reiterated to keep organising various events every quarter to ensure the momentum of Global Active city is maintained .
IPS Anil Palta appreciating BSL efforts and seeking first time well defined arrangements of marathon said “Well beginning is half done” . DC Kuldeep Chaudhary and SP Chandan Jha both participated in the marathon actively and appreciated the preparation’s carried for the successful execution of the event.
Township chief and Chairman of Global Active city mission BS Popli who lead this half marathon event from front extended thanks to the entire management of BSL including ground team and said that the event was aimed at igniting the ‘never say die spirit’ and fitness oriented lifestyle by regular physical activity and running which already via Happy street initiatives First Global active city Bokaro adopted and now habituated.
Excited from the gala success of the event TA Chief Popli specifically added that the level of participations and the extent of prize distribution given is the largest of its kind.
Lead Officer Jaideep Sarkar (IOC) said that this Half marathon is first of it's kind record breaking prize distribution ceremony in India took place honouring all the 2500 participants at one time . Notably top winners of Half marathon in different categories were Md.Javed and Tripurari in 2 Km (specially abled) , Salman Khan and MK Mahto in 5Km ,Abhay Kumar and Arun Kumar in 10 Km including C Kumar and Pawan Kumar in 21 Km . COC BSL MK Dhan acknowledged the contribution of each persons who were involved in making this event successful and said that it was a commendable effort to engage peoples from all the sections of society pro-actively in keeping fit and healthy under the banner of first Global Active city Bokaro.
