To take the cleanliness drive a step ahead and to win the coveted title of Smart City by competing with other major cities of the country, the Civic Body initiative ‘Safai Giri’ kicked off from MG Marg on Sunday. The municipal corporation has planned to roll it further and decorate the residential localities of the state capital with a cleanliness award.
‘Swacchta Giri’ award will be given to those residential localities, which will clear the prescribed norms of RMC in terms of hygiene and sanitation. The RMC officials along with others conducted a survey in this regard and demarcated several places for constructing urinals under ‘Safai Giri’ project. It has been also instructed to the officials to mark those few places at Main Road where there will be a provision for dustbins for save disposal of discarded materials.
RMC personnel are on toe and have marked few major chowks and other landmark places including the parking areas in the capital city for maintenance. “Under this initiative the RMC aims to extend ‘Safai Giri’ to other areas too in the days to come. Regular monitoring of localities at regular interval will give the officials a fair vision and accordingly further steps will be considered to improve the status of the particular locality. From arranging dustbins to cleaning up all the choked drainages will be immediately addressed by the concerned incharge,” said, Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijaywargia.
“As many as 25 dustbin places were demarcated along with 10 sites, where the urinal will be constructed. The work for it will be initiated at earliest. Along with the construction work, other beautification work will also be carried out in State capital,” added Vijaywargia.
Ward councillors too feel that the initiative taken by the Civic Body officials is worth appreciating. “The step considered by the municipal body will boost the ongoing cleanliness drive. We have not been informed formally about it but have been told about ‘Swacchta Giri’ at times. All the ward councillors too feel that the step will inculcate sense of competition among one and all. However, before that the corporation must ensure resources for disposing wastes and address the issue of manpower crunch,” said Ward Councilor of 21, Roshni Xalxo.
After being ranked 61 out of 73 Municipal Corporations, in the ‘Swacchta Sarvekshan’ conducted all over the country in 2015 to monitor different aspects of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is gearing up for the next ‘Swacchta Sarvekshan’ to be slated to initiate from February 2017. Notably, in the last year survey, Ranchi lagged behind several cities in numerous terms to achieve the coveted position.
