Amidst the volley of protest against the school fee across the State prestigious Sacred Heart school, Chiyanki has been found flouting all norms of safety and security. The schools administration sent back children in a bus which had caught fire on Monday. An abrupt fire caught a bus of the school numbering 13 in its premise on Monday morning, with fortunately no child on it. The fire caused extensive damages to the bus rendering it completely unworthy of road.
Another bus parked near the ill-fated bus also sustained fire. However the school authority allowed children to ride the second bus numbering 9, flouting all norms of safety and putting lives of children in danger. The Motor Vehicle Act clearly states that vehicle be withdrawn or stop from plying if it poses or is in a condition to pose any threat to life and property. Here the bus number 9 of this school made a return journey from the school with the children packed.
The principal of the Sacred Heart school Chiyanki Sister Jossey Mathew admitting her folly said. “It is because of my ignorance.” The principal had no answer as to why she did not wait for the Motor Vehicle Inspector to first inspect both the buses number 13 and 9. She drew a blank when asked that without fitness certificate from the MVI, bus number 9 should not have been allowed to roll out with school children after the incident.
The Officer In Charge of the Daltonganj police station Byas Ram said, “There must be an inspection of buses by the MVI. The police have asked the Principal to file a petition giving entire details. The police will investigate as to how bus number 9 was used to ferry back the school children when it had had the impact of fire too.” A fire tender had to deploy to control the fire which is understood to have caused by accident.
