Ranchi Division of South Eastern Railway has launched Swachchh Bharat Mission-2. On this occasion, Ranchi DRM Deepak Kashyap administered the ‘Cleanliness Pledge’ to railway officers and employees. Events to promote public participation in cleanliness at stations were organised at stations of Ranchi.

At Namkom station, the Ranchi DRM led an intensive cleanliness drive on Tuesday with active involvement of Ramkrishna Mission volunteers and teachers and students of Amar Jyoti High School, Hardag.

Speaking to rail-users and local residents, Kashyap said, “The much needed public toilet will be constructed by November along with provision of proper outlet along the boundary wall of Platform 1 for discharge of effluents. After cutting and cleaning of the vegetation, extensive tree plantation for enhancing station ambience and green cover is also in the cards.”

Swami Madhavanand, who led the Ramkrishna Mission volunteers and school staff and students, expressed his happiness at railway’s initiative and offered to extend Mission‘s full support in this cleanliness mission as and when needed.  At Ranchi station, school children from Bharat Scout & Guide performed a street play, in the presence of Kashyap and other senior railway officers, highlighting the need for making cleanliness at stations a public movement. Amid enthusiastic on-looking passengers, these young emissaries of Indian Railways’ cleanliness mission sensitized rail-users on the need to avoid littering in trains and station premises.

Kshayap said, “I hope street plays on such themes and messages would facilitate dissemination of information among rail-users besides emotionally engaging them in Indian Railways’ cleanliness mission.”

He further added, “On Board Housekeeping Service (OBHS), recently introduced in ten important trains of Ranchi Division for real time cleaning and complaint and redressal in moving trains, had been a big success and this was now being extended to three more trains. Dustbins have now been provided in general and sleeper class compartments too.”
