All is not well in different construction related departments here in Dhanbad .
After getting patch work for over Rs 43 crores on roads built at similar cost now attempts to manage tender at Dhanbad building division were on on Thursday till late evening. This all happened when the registered contractors of the departments created ruckus and came to know that attempts to manage tenders were being made and new contractors were not being allowed to drop tender papers.
This all happened in knowledge of the executive engineer but refused to comment directly saying that he is not aware of the issue as he is out of office, said contractors.
All started when tenders for works done about two years ago by some pet contractors of the department were done at the office of the deputy commissioner, New circuit House and some works at SNMMCH. The total value of work was over Rs two crores. The engineers though got works done without calling for tenders then now when funds were released called for tenders . Representatives of different firms had heated exchange of words as a section wanted that since work has already been done only those who worked should be allowed to drop tender papers.
Executive Engineer RK Rana said,"I am not aware what happened during the tender. " He refused to comment when was asked why earlier the works were ordered without calling tender then. However, since the dispute the tender has been cancelled . One of the contractors said , work up to Rs 25 lakhs can be done in case of emergence as per departmental rule but in all cases the works were of much higher value and were awarded to contractors who were in the good books of departmental engineers.
