RU to hold Senate meet on Aug 12

Ranchi University (RU) Syndicate members on Tuesday decided to organise its postponed Senate meeting of this year on August 12. The university was previously supposed to hold this high-level meeting on April 27 but the hurdle of not having elections for student unions for around five years and thereby not electing a student representative member in Senate had led to the delay of this senate meet.

The University creating a history on December 20 last year had hosted its senate meet after a span of around four years which according to the present VC laxmi Narayan Bhagat should take place twice a year. Bhagat was appointed as RU VC on February 1 in 2012 and had been stressing on the officials since then to conduct the long awaited senate meet.

However, the student representative election is still on a hope status. In Senate meet, the approved agendas of Syndicate are given a green signal and further sent to the State Govern-ment for its implementation.

Briefing about MCI representative on behalf of university Pro VC Dr M Raziuddin said, “ RIMS is the only medical institution under RU at present so it is obvious that a staff from RIMS would be elected as MCI representative.”

Registrar AK Choudhary and Deputy Registrar Pritam Kumar conceded that they are supposed to elect a MCI representative after a period of every five years as mentioned in MCI guidelines. The last MCI representative was chosen in 2007 from RIMS.

On the other hand, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell constituted at RU for the first time six months back is collecting the details of criteria required for inviting the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and will soon send the same to UGC. Due to no recent NAAC inspection, RU is unable to apply for various grants provided by UGC.
