Ranchi University’s Institute of Management Studies (IMS) students received tips on establishing business from three successful young entrepreneurs on Saturday. Credit goes to the entrepreneurship cell of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT) which in collaboration with IMS invited these speakers including Diadem Technologies Private limited Founder and CEO Hriday Biyani, New Education and Environment Visions (NEEV) Founder Anurag Jain and IBM employee Nitin Sharma.
The purpose of the programme was to provide a platform to the students since majority of them fail to grab a placement opportunity. “We rarely get chance to experience face to face interaction with people who were also like us but worked hard to fulfill their passion. Today they are considered a role model.
This entrepreneurship awareness drive has enhanced our knowledge on business management,” Amit Kumar Srivastava, a student of MBA Human Resource specialisation said.
Similarly, Nazia Abbas Abidia, a research scholar in the same department felt a degree of business management is not enough to get a job in the Government or private sector. “Nowadays, most of us want to start our own business instead of working in a 9 am to 5 pm job. The speakers explained us the basic necessities required to set up a business. Also, they taught us the challenges that needs to be tackled in the initially phases,” she said.
The three young entrepreneurs shared their thoughts with the history, present scenario and future scope of their respective business. However, they stressed on the overall personality development of an MBA student that matters the most in their career.
“In order to manage a business, it is important to be updated on the latest technology. 15 years back when I started of making a website for other companies, internet was something that everyone wanted to know. Today, it is available in gadgets. In such scenario, an independent entrepreneur should know the latest development taking place in the web world,” Biyani said.
Meanwhile, Anurag Jain focused on the gradual change in a person’s behaivour towards skill development. Applauding the partnership with IIT’s e-cell, IMS director S Singh said, “The objective of collaborating with IIT is multifold-one. It will embolden the industry-institute interface so that more and more students could benefit from the knowledge of emerging business trends.”
This was the fourth year when IIT’s entrepreneurship-cell had organised such a workshop. In 2010, it held an entrepreneurship awareness drive with Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi. The remaining two workshops were held at Xavier Institute of Social Service. As many as 480 students of IMS participated in the event.
