Ranchi University (RU) is gearing up for the 29th convocation to be held on January 20 at ‘Dikshant Mandap’ at Morabadi. Governor Draupadi Murmu has given her assent to participate in the convocation ceremony and accordingly university authorities are preparing for the D-day. Ranchi University will hand over degree certificates to students who passed out in 2013 batch.

RU is also planning to add the photographs of all the gold medalists of 2013 batch in the souvenir. “Apart from university details, this year we are also planning to add the photos of university toppers of various streams in the souvenir. All the toppers can either contact M K Jamuar, head of RU legal cell or can send their photos to jamuarmk@gmail.com as per their convenience,” informed, PRO of RU, Prakash Kumar Jha.

Citing details about the ongoing preparations, Jha said, “list of meritorious students of the university has already been prepared by the university staffs. 37 students from various faculties will receive Gold medal. Approximately 1814 students of 2013 batch will be presented certificates in the convocation ceremony.”

Various committees have been formed for the convocation ceremony. “This year, the university has formed various committees to keep the track of an entire event. Organizing committee, core committee, advisory board, finance committee, media incharge and dais management, volunteers cum discipline committee, refreshment committee have been constituted,” added Jha.

However, minute to minute list has yet not been approved and finalized by the authorities. Only after the approval from the Governor, the final list will be prepared. Students can collect convocation gown from the basic science building on the payment of Rs.1000 as security deposit money.

Several eminent personalities, including two former Presidents of India APJ Abdul Kalam and Pratibha Patil had attended the RU convocation earlier.

Moreover, the 29th convocation of the university, which was scheduled to be held in September 2014, was postponed to November 2014 without any notification of a fresh date and finally after much await it will be held on January 20.

On the other hand, the providence of students who completed their graduation from RU constituent colleges is at stake. According to the prescribed university guidelines, while only PG and PhD degrees have to be awarded at the university level convocation, graduation degrees have to be given at the college level, which most colleges do not conduct on regular basis and it further creates problems for graduate degree students in getting job or applying for higher education.
