Ranchi University (RU) has decided to postpone its Senate Meeting scheduled on April 27. The next date is yet to be decided.

Talking to the media, Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr lN Bhagat said, “We all officials are engrossed in official visit affairs associated to President Pranab Mukherjee’s welcome. In such situation, after a meeting on April 26 with the senior university officials, we have decided to postpone the senate meet.”

On Friday, the VC himself invited all the students unions namely ABVP, AJSU, NSUI, JCM and JCS for an interaction. Anguished due to Mass Communication department Director Sushil Ankan’s suspension, the representatives of the unions demanded for Ankan’s rejoining and then set up an enquiry and produce show cause.

“We have forwarded the Mass Communication Director removal matter to the Governor. The final decision over this department tension will be taken by the Governor House,” said Dr Bhagat. “Ankan is blamed for appointing guest faculty without RU’s permission and paying Rs 1000 to such faculty,” added Dr Bhagat.

The University has set up a committee comprising Pro-VC Dr N Raziuddin, Nupur Mehta and AK Pandey to look after the issue of Mass Communication department wherein Director Sushil Ankan and Guest Faculty Indukant Dikshit were indulged into hot argument on some visiting faculty deployment after which Ankan was removed by his chair by RU on April 22. Sources at this department informed that Dikshit himself wants to become the Director.

Mass Communication department was paused for last 2 or 3 days. On Thursday, students along with union leaders locked the gates of this department and Maulana Azad Senate hall. However, after VC’s announcement to delay the planned Senate meet, the unions unlocked the senate hall’s gates. Former Ranchi College Principal Dr AN Ojha who is now the Pro-VC of Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) located at Palamu was given his relieving letter on Friday followed by Dr Bhagat’s congratulations. Dr Ojha said, “This is for the first time I will be visiting Palamu. I am not much aware about the academic matters of NPU. Once, I join there on April 27, thereafter I seek to work for this university’s development.”
