The Ranchi University (RU) Senate on Wednesday passed the proposal of fixing service date of 51 teachers of regional and tribal languages to July 15, 1989 through voice vote. Some of the Senate members however, created ruckus over not releasing action taken report of the decisions taken during the last Senate.
The proposal will soon be sent to the Governor for approval. “We will soon send it to the Governor for her approval and will also try to give due promotion to the people,” RU VC Ramesh Kumar Pandey was quoted as saying.
Speaking about the demand of action taken report the VC added that the meeting of the Senate was a special meeting; discussion on more than one issue could not take place. The VC also assured that the matter of the State Government making efforts to grab RU land will be put before the Syndicate and Senate.
The VC also assured the protesting members that a notification announcing date for the RU elections will be issued on September 18.
The ruckus was created for the first time during the Senate meeting as soon as VC Ramesh Kumar Pandey started explaining the agenda to be taken during the meeting.
Former VC KK Nag, raising objections over fixing the date of the joining of teachers as their date of service, called it a new experiment which was beyond his understanding. Nag further said that the joining date should be fixed according to the court’s order or the recommendations made by the JPSC. He said that he was against the proposal and will put a note of dissent.
Another Senate member Pratul Shahdeo, on the other hand said that justice with the 51 teachers of tribal and regional languages was done on Wednesday hence it would not be justified to create any hurdle in this regard as these people have served the state on very minimal salaries for such a long time.
Another member of Senate however, said that it will be a true tribute to Ramdayal Munda if the proposal is passed unopposed in the Senate.
