Ranchi University entrance exam for PhD courses turned into a mess on Sunday when the examinees saw their question papers printed just in English. The subjects include Tribal and Regional languages (TRl), Geography, History, Political Science and Human Rights.
After around 10 minutes of the commencement of this examination, candidates of the respective subjects raised voice for not printing questions and their options in Hindi language. Noticing the helpless situation, the invigilator asked them to submit a group application after which a re-examination will be planned for the same.
“The date for this re-examination will be notified after the meeting of examination board on Monday,” said RU Registrar Amar Kumar Choudhary. As many as 1349 candidates appeared for this entrance examination for overall 23 subjects.
“This fault has affected 40 TRl Ph D aspirants. The same situation applies to most of the candidates among 143 History, 86 Geography and 60 Sociology cum Human Rights aspirants who appeared here,” said AK Singh, In-charge of university’s Multi Purpose Examination Hall.
TRl includes Kharia, Mundari, Kurukh, Ho, Santhali, Khortha, Ho, Panchpargania and Nagpuri dialects. The incident was criticised by the mentioned subject candidates as well. Two Mundari language women (in TRl) on the condition of anonymity said, “The authorities have violated the University Grants Commission norms. We were preparing religiously for this high level entrance examination. Unfortunately, our preparation resulted into wastage of time. This delay in exam was never expected.”
According to officials, the majority number of candidates appeared for Commerce cum MBA stream while the least numbers were for Geology subject.
All Jharkhand Students Union leaders were seen requesting university officials for announcing the re-examination dates at the earliest.
