Ranchi University (RU) is gearing up to hold the long-awaited student union polls by September. The new Vice Chancellor (VC) Ramesh Kumar Pandey has framed a committee headed by Dean of Students Welfare (DSW) SC Gupta on May 20. Gupta is mulling to meet the Syndicate Sub Committee for the polls to get the mandate for the electoral process.
“As the Syndicate is our decision making body, we will be meeting the members of the Syndicate Sub Committee for polls formed by the former VC lN Bhagat on May 26 for getting the resolution. A meeting of our new committee members comprising Proctor, IQAC Head, Marwari College Principal, Deputy Registrar 1 and Assistant Registrar will then be conducted probably on June 1 to decide on the dates of nomination filing, candidate withdrawal, scrutinising, voting and results,” said Gupta, the Member Secretary of the new committee.
“The next course of action would include sending letters to all College Principals and Post Graduate department Heads to confirm the last date of completing the admission of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. After the admissions are over, the electoral process will begin around August. We are hopeful to complete the elections before the Durga Puja vacations starting by the end of September,” added Gupta.
Notably, last year also, the university authorities were confident to hold the annual polls, but failed due to various objections from some student unions. RU Pro VC M Raziuddin, the Chairman of the Syndicate Sub Committee of polls, said, “Members of some student unions earlier demanded on amending the lyngdoh Committee rules applicable for organising polls across the Indian universities. later, they pointed on postponing the schedule of the polls in 2014. With no option left, we were bound to suspend the elections.”
However, in the recent scenario the student unions like National Students Union of India (NSUI), All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Jharkhand Chatra Sangh have been urging the university administration to hold the elections in the ongoing academic session 2015-16 for the sake of students.
Sources maintained a delegation of AJSU met Gupta two days back to understand the process of organising the polls smoothly. “We now have no objections on the rules of lyngdoh Committee. Moreover, we are looking forward to provide full cooperation in the upcoming polls planned between the months of August to September,” said Suman Kumar, a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
