Ranchi University (RU) introduced the trend of felicitating retired employees on Tuesday. It started with honoring RP Singh, an Assistant of University’s Post Graduate Economics Department. “Each employee of the university will now be felicitated with his or her pending salary amount through a cheque, a bouquet and shawl on the date of his retirement,” RU Vice Chancellor (VC) Ramesh Kumar Pandey said. Singh acclaimed the newly appointed VC and said it is a dream coming true for all the teaching and non-teaching staffs on the verge of retirement. Professor Pandey who is to complete one month of his appointment as the Vice Chancellor of RU on April 3 has been making continuous efforts to improve the administrative and academic work culture. Talking to The Pioneer, he said, “The monthly salaries of RU employees will no more be delayed. The first such timely provision of salary will commence from April 1. The academic session is in backlog and I am trying to improve it.”
“From the first day of my joining, I am visiting students in their concerned departments. I have already visited Tribal and Regional languages department and Botany department. In order to encourage students towards creative learning, the university as a team has started organizing motivational speeches. Initially it was hosted in Aryabhatta Auditorium on Monday and then in St Xavier’s College at free of cost on Tuesday. Such programmes will be continued,” added the VC. Interestingly, Pandey has started putting identity card attached to a tread around his neck mentioning his post and other personal details. He said some of his colleagues have adopted the same habit showing a disciplined working ambience. Asked about his plan of tracking files online, he said the entire university’s administrative building is being customized everyday and the process is in fast track.
Pandey was today gheraoed by student members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for around four hours regarding the removal of Prof-In-Charge Gone Oraon as the Principal of Karam Chand Bhagat College, Bero alleging that Oraon ignores the problems of the students. Cops from Kotwali Police station had to be called for calming down the violence. A team from RU had inspected the Bero College few days back. Pandey will also be inspecting the College himself on April 4 to take necessary action over Oraon.
“I cannot take a decision without observing the physical scenario of the college. The root cause of the trouble is that Oraon is not the senior most faculty member of the college and he has been given the authority of Principal. As per norms, the senior most teacher is responsible for the post if there are no charges against him or her,” Pandey said. The VC announced to come with a solution of the problem in the next ten days. Meanwhile, teachers of the same college met the VC in the later part of the day concerning their salary issues under fourth pay grade.
