The Bokaro district transport department is on move to take legal action against defaulters in a bid to recover unpaid road taxes.

Several commercial vehicles, mostly trucks and dumpers have been identified as plying without having paid the due taxes; the unpaid tax amounts are around Rs  70 crores, informed Santosh Garg DTO Bokaro.

There are thousands of vehicles in the district that are in the defaulters’ list and the Bokaro transport department has to recover the due, said Garg.

The department issued a notice to all defaulters several but they failed to pay the amount or report at the district transport office, he said.

Now a case has been filed in the court against 1200 defaulters, said DTO adding “the court is ready to execute warrant leading to attachment of the owner’s properties against 500 defaulters very soon”. The big defaulters are Karonation Company- Rs  5 crore 49 lakhs, BKB Pvt. ltd, Rs 1 crore 80 lakh, AT Company Rs 50.37 lakhs, Rama Transport Rs  15.83 lakhs including many more, official sources said.
