Unidentified criminals decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh  from a jewellery shop at block road near Subash chock under Chandankiyari police station area in the wee hours on Thursday. According to reports the criminals entered Anand Jewellers by breaking a portion of the shop’s back wall.

Owner Anand Kumar has lodged an FIR at the Chandankiyari police station in this connection. He stated that the value of the robbed jewellery was between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 12 lakh, Deputy superintendent of police Bahman Tuti and Officer-in Charge Shiv Lal Tuddu, who visited the site, estimated the value at Rs 10 lakh. According to Kumar, he had closed the shop at usual 9.30 pm on Wednesday. On opening the shop at 9am on Thursday, he saw that the Almirah was broken into and the valuable ornaments were missing. "There was nothing amiss at the entrance. A portion of the rear wall and plywood shelves were found damaged,” said Kumar.

Burglars had first damaged the concrete wall with a crowbar-like object, and then burnt shelves made of plywood to make a cave-like entrance to get inside, Kumar added.

He also said that while most of the robbed jewellery was made of  9 kg of silver, 200 grams of gold items were also missing.

Police have pressed a sniffer dog into service, but so far, investigations have drawn a blank. "We are trying to find out a clue to the gang of burglars. Raids are on,” Tuti told reporters. Recently, the district police had claimed to bust a gang which would burgle locker of SBI and sell stolen ornaments to jewellers with dubious records.

The police had made the breakthrough after the gang of Hassan Chikna had decamped with ornaments worth over Rs 5 crore from a SBI lockers in Sector IV.
