Roy proposes tree plantation along NH-33

Minister of Food and Civil Supplies department, Saryu Roy, has urged the State Chief Secretary for plantation of trees on the sides of the road running between Ranchi and Bahragora via Jameshedpur as an effort to observe this year’s ‘Van Mohotsava’ in the State. The event of ‘Van Mahotsava’ was organised on Monday on the premises of the State Assembly that is still under construction.

The NH-33, earlier, had trees lined up on both sides of the road but the project of width expansion of the road led to ruthless cutting of trees, leaving the highway barren and empty. There has been no initiative to plant new saplings even after the demarcation process for the roads have been complete.

The Minister believes that the work of planting trees along the lines of the new demarcation should be given to the department of Forest and Environment. It is high time the GsThe task can be accelerated by assigning tree planation drive to all Forest divisions between Ranchi and Bahragora. But their work doesn’t end here, further protecting the saplings from getting destroyed and ensuring their growth should also a part of the project.

Apart from regular trees, Saryu Roy has also proposed to plant varied coloured flowering trees and plants for the beautification of the road which can prove to be pleasant for both – people travelling on the highway and indigenous people residing in nearby areas.

Tree plantation will not only soak the emptiness of the road but will also help restore the natural ecosystem that was damaged for the development work in due time, feels Ray. For the success of the festival of ‘Van Mohotsava’ it is imperative to take steps that ensure reforestation and creation of a balanced ecosystem.
