A girl student of a private engineering college in Rourkela was allegedly abducted and gangraped for two days by five youths at Lotapahar in Jharkhand.
As per a complaint lodged with the Government Railway Police (GRP), the girl, a resident of Jharsuguda, was coming her home from there. While she was waiting at the Rourkela railway station, a youth introduced himself as a friend of her brother and travelled with her. Later, he convinced her to get down at the Lotapahar station in Jharkhand and take a bus to Jharsuguda.
Subsequently, after getting down from the train, the youth took her to a house at Lotapahar where four more of his associates raped her for two days and then dumped her in a jungle and fled the spot. Later, the victim was rescued by some locals in a critical condition.
The girl tried to file an FIR at the Chakradharpur police station in Jharkhand with the help of some locals, but the police refused and sent her to Rourkela.
Later, she and her family members managed to lodge a police complaint with the help of a social activist with the Rourkela GRP on Sunday.
“I took her to the Rourkela GRP station and lodged a complaint into the incident,” said the social activist Prakash Paswan.
After the registration of the FIR with the GRP, the girl was sent for medical examination and then her statement was also recorded in court.
A police official said that based on the victim’s statement a case has been lodged against five unidentified persons. A team has also left for Jharkhand for further investigation.
