The new V-C of Vinoba Bhave University seems not to have even time to enjoy ‘honeymoon period’. Quarrel has started coming out just after 15 days of taking charge of Prof. Gurdeep Singh.
On Monday the syndicate of VBU met in VC’s chamber to discuss specially on the agenda of the meeting of the senate to be held on August 2. It was not an emergent meeting so other proposals were also in the agenda and the rift started from this point. Nominee member of State Government Sanwarmal Agrawal objected on it and said that it is actually contempt of the syndicate.
With this word war started in VC’s chamber, Agrawal then raised several matters which are according to him are irregularities. VC lost his temper and said him to go out of the chamber. Agrawal gave his note of descent in writing and then boycotted the meeting. After the meeting when The Pioneer enquired about the decisions taken Registrar Dr. SP Sinha simply said that the agenda of senate meeting has been approved. When The Pioneer requested him to give details he replied nothing noteworthy has been decided or happened.
On the other hand after boycotting the meeting Sanwarmal Agrawal sent a fax message to the Chancellor Office in which he had stated about his objections and the decisions of present VC Prof. Gurdeep Singh which are against the rules and regulations. In present VC’s tenure a new fashion has started that after every meeting lunch is given to the members which comes from the costliest hotel of Hazaribagh. Agrawal said that syndicate has met on July 2, there are 17 members in syndicate and the hotel bill was of Rs 36000.
Quoting other examples he said that within last two months VBU has spent more than Rs 2.5 lakhs on lunch. Similarly he raised question on advertisement published by VBU for appointment consultant in Central library though there is no such post in VBU. He said that actually VC wants to appoint his friend who was with him in ISM Dhanbad so the terms and conditions have been framed accordingly, vacancy has been published and the matter has been tabled in
Tuesday’s meeting. Prof. Gurdeep Singh who had claimed after his appointment that he will serve VBU as his mother seems to be forgotten his words within two months. Cracks have appeared and the first look which has came out is not showing a good sign. In today’s meeting he said that ‘you do not know the powers of a Vice Chancellor’, for him it will be a humble suggestion that in democracy the powers of even Prime Minister and President of India is challengeable.
