Ranchi traffic police personnel have prepared and planned a week long campaign to mark the Road Safety Week’ an initiative of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India. Various programmes will be organised from January 11 to January 17 focusing on road safety measures.
Citing details about the programme, Traffic SP, Manoj Ratan Chothe, said, “With the motto to create awareness at every level and among all age group, several events have been planned by the traffic police personnel. People are not well versed with the road safety regulations and we have demarcated several major locations and have put stalls where traffic police personnel will guide the commuters.”
“The department has collaborated with Bharat Ki Pehchaan, a private agency and various corporate firms for the purpose. The campaign will also be conducted in few schools like St. Thomas and St. Xavier’s to make teenagers aware about traffic rules and regulation,” added Chothe.
Hoardings, posters and banners depicting various safety measures are put up at different places in the state capital. However, traffic drives and campaigns merely create any impact on an individual for long period.
“Though awareness campaigns are conducted on regular basis but after a while its impact gets over. We need to enforce stringent rules, to make denizens follow traffic laws. We have been conducting regular checking drives and incurring heavy fines to bring traffic system on smooth pace. The checking drive will continue in the coming days too,” added Chothe.
On Tuesday, a bike rally was organised and simulator car was introduced for trial purpose. “We have collaborated with Honda and arranged simulator for trial at few locations like Karamtoli Chowk. lashed with highly modern equipment, simulator will guide the denizens while test drive and make them aware about the traffic regulations, if in case any individual breaks the traffic law, it will give the signal and inform the driver to be alert and cautious,” informed Chothe.
Apart this, street play, cycle rally and poster making competition will also be organized in the coming days at schools and colleges to mark ‘Road Safety Week’.
