Rampant illegal mining across the Central Coalfield Limited areas of Giridih district has again caused a severe landslide. However, no casualty has been reported so far. The site of occurrence comes under the jurisdiction of the Giridih Muffasil police station.
The Baniyadih-Kabriabad main road near Chilga village of Giridih Colliery, collapsed on Wednesday morning. Over 15 – 20 feet of the road has sunk down from the ground level. Besides, almost 125 square feet areas, close to the site of collapse, are under severe influence with multiple rifts and breakage. The incident has disrupted movement of vehicles or other modes of transportations across the locality. This is the second such incident over the past 20 days in the Kabribad area.
Soon after the incident, the CCL authorities visited the site of the incident and took stock of the situation. “No any serious incident or any casualty has been reported so far. We are now trying to fill-up the submerged portions of road so that movement and transportation of vehicles could be resumed as soon as possible”, said SK Singh, the Project Officer, Giridih CCL.
Singh said that the CCL authorities had launched a special drive to fill up all the abundant mines so that illegal mining could be prevented across the region. “Besides, lodging FIRs against those found indulged in illegal mining in and around Kabribad, we have appealed to the concerned police authorities to look after the issue and do the needful so as to check the illegal mining across the CCL areas”, Singh added.
OC, Giridih Muffasil, Vinay Ram, said that the local police were looking into the matter. “Our operation against the illegal miners has been going on for the past several months. Whenever we get information, we take necessary actions to nab the culprits”, he added.
