The number of road accidents has increased in the district. According to District Traffic Police Office, Garhwa , as many as 159 major road accidents occurred in a period of 11 months, in which 84 persons died and 132 were seriously injured.
According to the traffic police the majority of the deceased were either driving a two-wheeler or riding pillion and died mostly of severe head injuries suffered in accidents. Commenting on the issue Traffic Inspector SP Gupta said that most accidents were owing to speeding and reckless driving, and in some cases, the victims were not even wearing helmets. Stating another reason on the issue, he said roads continued to remain unsafe at several locations.
“For instance, there is high probability of an accident happening on the NH 33, where speeding by motorists unfamiliar with the road is the major reason for accidents,” he added
“Under the road safety awareness programme Road safety leaflets including roses, chocolates and flowers are distributed to the travelers on the road,” Gupta said.
