To do away with lack of coordination among its various sections, Ranchi Municipal Corporation is planning to opt for online mode of working. The first step in this direction will be providing tablet computers to 55 Ward Councillors of Ranchi, which they can use to share information about the issues in their respective wards and their efforts to solve them.
Talking about the proposal during the RMC board meeting on Monday, Municipal Commissioner (MC) Prashant Kumar stated that the ward councillors can communicate among themselves and RMC officials without delay using internet based services through the tablets, which comes up frequently in the offline mode of communication in practise now.
He added, “Eight city managers working for RMC have been instructed to upgrade their respective sections to work in completely digital manner. Processes in accounts, engineering and market sections will be made online soon.”
The city managers are also being trained as the second line of command, as most of the section heads in the urban local body are nearing retirement. “As our section heads for future, city managers have been asked to learn the working procedures of RMC. Even now, the city managers are looking after departmental files of their sections,” stated Kumar.
Before the board meeting began, ward councillors registered their dissent over delay in receiving the agenda for the same. This has been a recurring holdup due to which they are unable to understand the issues in detail before they discussed in a board meeting, they stated unanimously. The issue will be solved soon, assured Mayor Asha lakra.
later in the meeting, Councillor of Ward 6, Ashok Khalkho, pointed out that the funds allotted to RMC under 13th Finance Commission for social service and public welfare works are yet to be utilised.
In reply to this, MC stated, “The funds were allocated to RMC were against the projects proposed. Most of the money has been utilised as 80 per cent of these projects have been completed. Presently, we are only going to surrender the funds for drain construction in Zone 1 as the project could not be completed.”
