The Ranchi Municipal Corporation at its standing committee meeting held virtually on Monday, took some important decisions in its fight against the corona pandemic. The RMC standing committee decided to buy 500 oxygen cylinders, which will be made available to residents of the municipal area on their need and requirement. The civic body will purchase these oxygen cylinders from its Nagrik Suvidha Kosh (Citizen Corpus).
The RMC decision to buy oxygen cylinders has been taken as in past week the Capital has witnessed severe shortage of oxygen cylinders with many hospitals running shortage of oxygen cylinders. The shortage of oxygen cylinders can be gauged from the fact that RMC deputy mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargiya too had to knock various hospitals seeking oxygen cylinders for his uncle’s treatment. Later, on the intervention of Marwari Sewa Samiti, oxygen cylinders were provided but the life of the old man could not be saved.
In corona pandemic, oxygen is provided to patients whose oxygen level falls abnormally. Oxygen has applications in the iron and steel industry, hospitals, pharmaceutical units that manufacture vials, and the glass industry. Currently, most states have diverted their entire oxygen production for medical use.
Mayor Asha Lakra said, “The RMC today took some vital decisions including buying oxygen cylinders so that it can be made available to people based on their requirement during this corona pandemic time. Decisions were also taken to sanitize the entire capital with the help of civic body vehicles. ”

With an increase in death rate in the past few weeks, Ranchi Mukti Dham and other crematorium are facing difficulties in arranging woods for last rites of the deceased.
