Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) at its Standing Committee meeting on Thursday proposed to hire a couple of engineers on contract.
The Committee also shortlisted around half a dozen proposals, including beautifying as many as 20 important round-abouts in the city, developments of sewerage-drainage works, setting up 11 zonal offices and few others in its nearly two-hour long meeting on the day.
Municipal Commissioner Shantanu Kumar Agrahari assured during the meeting that no case of water logging would appear in the city post monsoon rain during this year winter and onwards. “The company setting up sewerage-drainage systems and fixing problems has asked time up to September 15 to come up with all such problems fixed. I have strictly asked them not to start even a single inch of fresh work before they finish ongoing works in 46 Kms of length,” said Agrahari.
Committee members were upset over ‘work in progress’ board standing erect for months everywhere in Municipal area, and contractors didn’t take their works seriously, especially in case of sewerage-drainage works. “Incessant rain has affected works, however this will not be entertained as an excuse for long. Moreover, we have identified 122 spots of water logging in the city, including those where works are on. We will assure the situation changes soon,” added Agrahari where Mayor Asha lakra, Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargeeya, Chief Engineer, Additional Municipal Commissioner and other officials were present.
As far as zonal offices are concerned, almost all the members unanimously nodded for dividing the RMC area into zones for offloading pressure on its headquarters, better monitoring of developments and providing quick service to those in need. Vijayvargeeya said that setting up zonal offices will start from Bariatu and Ratu, followed by other areas. He also said that extending deadlines of development works had started resulting in people losing faith in their elected representatives. He also came down heavily on the Chief Engineer for inviting l-2 bidders to commence couple of development works despite l-1 bidder was ready to take assignment forward. Beautification of important round abouts in city remained a long-lasting proposal and the time was ripe to move forward for it, said Vijayvargeeya.
The Mayor asked officials and members to simplify issues, rather than trying to make simpler issues into complex ones. “We have already suffered a lot by keep discussing on possible difficulties in any of the project we have discussed. It is time now to stand to expectations of people and we need to speed up processes without violating any existing norm,” said lakra. Notably, all the issues discussed on the day would require detailed discussions during the upcoming monthly general body meeting of the municipal body.
