RMC team unhappy with cleanliness work

A team led by the senior officials including the City Managers of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) along with the ward councilors inspected the status of sanitation in different wards on Monday.

Predominately focusing on areas under the supervision of RMSW – Essel Infra, the inspection was carried out. With merely a few days left for the Swacchta Survekshan – 2019 to begin, the civic guardians appeared unsatisfied with the work undertaken by the solid waste management company.

According to the City Managers who assisted the team, the Municipal Corporation is planning to take the existing arrangements in its own hand soon, looking at the feeble approach of the agency. After the inspection of different wards, scrutiny reports in audio-video formats have been submitted to the senior officials for final assessment. The report is likely to be evaluated soon.

“The work undertaken by the solid waste management company here is unsatisfying. Dearth of labourers, lack of garbage collection vehicles, indefinite strike of sanitation workers, troubled Mini-Transfer Stations (MTSs) including irregular coverage of garbage collections in the defined areas still persists despite rounds of warnings to the firm and revising the work ward-wise,” said RMC City Manager on anonymity.

Further, the City Manager admitted that if the present status of door to door garbage collection and disposal is not improved, it will be highly difficult for the State’s biggest Urban Local Body (ULB) to cope up with other cities participating in the Swacchta Survekshan – 2019. The sanitation competition being organised annually since 2016 by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to encourage cities to improve on different parameters of urban sanitation is getting bigger and better with every passing year.

Beginning with 73-odd urban cities in the country, the competition, this year will cover 4000 urban belts with some additional key features along with the old elements.

“Brainstorming is being done to make some alternate arrangements, however, how much duration will be consumed in drafting out the final proposal is yet to be decided by the officials and RMC health section,” the RMC City Manager added.
