Ahead of the summer season, Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has pledged to solve water crisis. The civic body’s board members discussed on the condition of hand pumps and high yielding tube wells (HYDT) within the city on Friday. The corporation has decided to repair the 151 hand pumps and install 150 new hand pumps. Mayor Asha lakra said councillors of the 55 wards will soon receive funds for deep boring. Every councillor has been asked to set up two HYDTs or one HYDT and a hand pump.

“The water level in most of the wards has decreased. In such circumstances, we have requested the Mayor to provide mini HYDTs so that the old hand pumps which are not functioning can be reused,” said councillor of ward number 28, Ashok Kumar Baraik. Sources maintained the discussion on water crisis was held for long. lakra said the initiative is being taken as some among the 60 existing HYDTs in the state capital are not working. The corporation is also mulling to provide water tanker of around 200 liters in each ward before the onset of summer season. Ward councillors have been instructed to provide the amount generated through the sale of scraps concerning water management.

The decision over hiking the rent allotment of shopkeepers is yet to be taken. Till date, the rent of the allotted shops under RMC is hiked by 10 percent in a period of one year. Some ward councillors want it to be increased after a span of three years which as per the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rajesh Kumar of RMC will affect the Revenue department. The final decision over the proposal will be taken by Secretary of the Urban Development department.

Also, RMC is likely to make changes in the posting of its employees. “We hope to begin table transfer of all the employees,” said Mayor lakra. Ward councillor Baraik has requested RMC officers open the registration process of builders since each builder pays Rs 50,000 to obtain a registration licence separately. This according to him will prove convenient for the builders.

Ward councillors have asked RMC to provide them a list of land available under the custody of RMC. Sources said the requisite was made as many locals have been noticed of residing in one ward and owing a home in another ward. Councillors have also requested RMC to provide facility fee to house owners who do are not registered with RMC. Presently, there are around 80,000 houses registered in RMC. Owners of these houses are authorized to pay the facility fee.
