The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has started taking fresh measures to give a facelift to major city squares. In a bid to bring Ranchi at par with other big cities ensuring uniform development, the Municipal Corporation has selected 15 major squares of the State Capital for the beautification task in the first phase.
Interestingly, the civic guardians for the first time have decided to replicate the designs of a few famous city squares located across the country. “While keeping the essence of the tribal land, blueprints of a few city squares located in Indore, Lucknow and Jaipur City will be considered while chalking out the final draft for the development of city squares. If all goes well, two or three city squares in the first phase will be decorated involving a hefty sum of Rs. 1 crore,” said Mayor Asha Lakra on Saturday.
Starting from Piska More – one of the busiest avenues of the Capital City to Kutchery Chowk, all the prime squares, located within this specific route will be redecorated in the first phase. Harmu Road and Nagababa Khatal have been proposed to be covered in the first phase.
“All preliminary work of identifying the major city squares has been completed. Soon, the civic body will hand over the work to a competent agency. RMC in association with the Department of Urban Development, Housing and Planning will jointly prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) within a month or two while the renovation work is expected to initiate after the General Election- 2019,” added Lakra.
Along with the work of developing the major city squares, the Municipal Corporation will also refurbish the age-old existing city squares like Albert Ekka Chowk, New Market Chowk including a few others.
“Minor repair work of some city squares has been started. The renovation task is expected to take over three months. By June 2019 end, the renovation task is expected to start in a full-fledged way,” Lakra further added.
Recently, the Municipal Corporation team comprising all senior officials had inspected the prime spots to be covered under the beautification project. “Engineers associated with the project have been instructed to make a detail draft comprising the size, location and other vital aspects for every city square, before finalising the blueprint,” the Mayor stated.
