From streamlining solid waste management system in capital city to introducing decentralized composting system, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is leaving no stone unturned to clinch good grades in the ‘Swacchta Sarvekshan 2018’ commencing from January 4. After faring poorly in the last year survey, the municipal corporation has adopted several strategies to compete with other major cities in the upcoming sanitation challenge.

Sharing the details of the preparedness, Municipal Commissioner, Shantanu Kumar Agrahari on Saturday said, “Work of installing decentralized composting system at major places that are the bulk waste generators will be ensured by December 25. We are also focusing on behavioral change approach through rigorous drives.”

“Also, the enforcement team is keeping an eye on the open defecation (OD) spots. Meanwhile, approximately, 20,000 ‘Swacchta MoUD mobile application’ have been downloaded by the city residents by far. Also, the work of installing public feedback systems has been completed in almost all the public toilets by the team. Installation of hoardings will be ensured at public places by the end of December,” he further added.

This year around 4000 Urban local Bodies (UlBs) from across the country will compete for the ‘Swachhta Sarvekshan’. With the objective to transform the State Capital and to inculcate the habit of cleanliness among the denizens, the civic body will install twin dustbins at 38 demarcated commercial areas. Also, following the norms, more than 90 bio-toilets are likely to be constructed within the municipal periphery soon.

The survey will initiate from January 4 and will conclude on February 15. Public feedback on various features of sanitation is one of important aspect of the survey. The assessment will be done out of 4000 points. For documentation work 1400 points will be given. For citizens feedback as well, the UlB will receive 1400 points while for direct observation 1200 points will be given to the UlB.

In addition, this year, the municipal corporation has engaged ‘Swacchta Brand Ambassadors’ from different fields to convey the main purpose of the programme among the public. Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), business organisations have been actively engaged in the project said the Municipal Commissioner.

‘Swacchta Pakhwaras’ will be conducted by the PSUs and other organizations. As per the record, work of constructing 32,000 toilets under ODF target has been complete. Following the norms of solid waste management system 2016, public will be made aware about the importance of segregation of waste.

A new concept of
