The Eklavya Tower, a residential apartment at Kathal More, is on the radar of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) for violating building bylaws of Civic body, after scores of anomalies were detected in its construction. The apartment’s construction anomalies were detected recently after scores of cars were submerged which were parked at basement and parking spaces. Pictures of submerged cars in parking and basement were in the national news last week.
RMC town planner, Srikant Saran visited the apartment on Saturday to assess the situation. The RMC town planner during his visit discovered several discrepancies in the construction of building and the RMC is planning to issue notice to Eklavya Estate Pvt Limited.
Saran said, “The RMC team which had visited the apartment last week found several discrepancies in the construction of building. The RMC has asked maps of the buildings. Prima facie it found that there was drainage problem as there was not sufficient route for water discharge.” Saran also said that it was detected that builder of the apartment had encroached road. The RMC town planner said that the Civic body team will assess the construction loopholes after the builder submits the construction maps of the building. The team will tally real construction of buildings with the Civic body maps, after which action will be initiated against the builder.
Sources said that the Civic Body will impose a fine on the builder and if required the license of the constructor too will be cancelled. It may be noted that due to the incessant rain last Thursday, several areas of the capital were waterlogged. Basement and parking of several apartments were submerged. At Eklavya Tower, dirty water entered the parking lot. When the RMC officials visited the apartment for inspection on Saturday, they discovered that the builder had not made any drain for discharge of water from the basement.
Four JCB machines were put in service for discharging water from the basement. After water was removed from the area the residents were relieved. Around 70 families living in the apartment were cut off from the rest of the world due to water logging in the area, as residents could not get fruits, vegetables and milk for days. Power supply in the area was also disrupted for days. A resident of the apartment requesting anonymity said, “We had seen such water logging in Patna, Delhi and other big cities. We had never imagined of such waterlogging will occur in our apartment as the topography of Capital is different. But due to construction loopholes there was water logging.” The resident further said, “Due to water logging several cars were damaged as these cars were submerged in water for days.” Ranchi Municipal Corporation officials say that the water logging in this apartment happened due to the builder's mistake. That is why action is being taken against the builder. There was no negligence on the part of the Municipal Corporation in this connection.
