With less than a month to go for Durga Puja, Ranchiites are gearing up for the impending celebrations and the various puja committees are busy raising funds for erecting pandals.
However, despite preparations, cleanliness, proper lighting, water tanker, drainage system and potholes on the roads of the city still remains a major reason of concern. To sort out these problems members of Ranchi Mahanagar Puja Pandal Samiti held a meeting with the officials of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Thursday.
CEO of RMC, Deepankar Panda said, “This time we had decided to divide the puja pandal into different zones. Each zone will be provided at least 20 labourers for cleaning the pandal and its vicinity and each zone will be supervised by one of the senior officer of RMC. Moreover, a helpline number will be allotted so that if anyone faces any kind of civic problem during pandal hopping then they can contact RMC on this number anytime.”
In the meeting RMC assured to provide round the clock help to the committee. The first problem discussed was the drainage system and potholes on city roads to which Panda said, “Before the commencement of the festival all the roads will be constructed and drains will be cleaned out.”
The members also demanded provision for drinking water near every pandal. "Drinking water will be provided by tankers to the 137 registered pandals of the city,” added Panda.
It was also decided that all the non-functional vapour lights will be repaired and those areas where lights are missing will be provided new street lights. Moreover, if any pandal requires extra light then they have to give a written letter first, the RMC officials feels that the demand for extra light is justified then they will provide it.
Satya Amar lok Secretary Kishan Poddar said, “RMC had assured us to clean the city within couple of weeks and will fulfill all our demands to make the festival successful.”
