People shouldn’t get surprised to come across clean roads and increased number of dustbins around, and requests from civic body to download Swachchhta App in their smartphones, at least for some days. The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided on Wednesday in a meeting to take all these steps simultaneously to score healthy marks to make way in the list of top-50 cleanest cities in India, for which Swachchhta Survey is scheduled to take place within a week from now.
The civic body has also suggested the Government to sanction additional Rs 3,500 Crores against various development works in the State budget for year 2017-18, which is scheduled to be tabled on January 23 next year during Winter Session of the Assembly. The demands have been made against Government’s suggestion to the civic body to come up with its suggestions and demands.
“We have decided during the meeting today to place more dustbins in every ward, apart from banner-posters at public places. Our workers will keep roads clean and tidy. We will encourage people to download more and more Swachchhta Apps on their mobile phones to earn good marks during survey. We will also encourage people through different modes of communications to keep public places clean, and not to litter clean places, so that the city earns good marks during Cleanliness Survey,” said RMC Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargeeya after the meeting presided over by Mayor Asha lakra concluded.
Councilors present at the meeting, at the same time opined that even if there was no Cleanliness Survey, the civic body needed to take all those steps discussed for the sake of well-being of residents itself. “Many councilors said that it was not an issue of being in top-50 cities. It is a matter of public convenience and residents need it throughout the year. So, no matter city fails to make its way in top-50, we must provide basic amenities to citizens so that at least we present one of the cleanest cities during next year survey,” said Vijayvargeeya.
As far as budgetary demands from Government is concerned, the RMC has suggested the government to provide at least Rs 2,500 crores as soon as possible to carry out sewerage and drainage projects in rest of the three zones. The civic body has suggested providing at least additional Rs 100 Crores for maintenance and existing electric wire-lines and installation of new transformers-poles within its area in the city.
“We have also sought an assistance of Rs 500 crores to carry out beautification drive of dividers and pathways along a couple of roads, a sum of Rs 200 crores for protection of movable and immovable properties of the civic body and Rs 200 crores for pipeline infrastructure development within RMC maintained areas,” said the Deputy
Mayor.
