RMC officials on toes to ensure cleanliness, violators on radar

The otherwise indifferent Civic Body of the city seem to have come in an active mode in the wake of two major festivals ‘Diwali’ and ‘Chhath Puja’. To take a reality test of several water reservoirs across the State, Mayor Asha lakra along with the Municipal Corporation team inspected the cleanliness status of major water bodies on Sunday.

The Mayor instructed the officials to conduct cleanliness drive covering major ponds at the earliest. Meanwhile, during the inspection of ‘Bijli talab’ located near power house in Chutiya, on request of local residents, lakra issued immediate closure order of oil godown near the pond to stop oil leakage that is severely affecting the eco-system of the area.

Also, in view of inactive approach of solid waste management firm Essel Infra, the company handling the task of door to door garbage collections in Capital City that has left the Municipal Corporation’s management in quandary, ward supervisors have been ordered to submit daily progress report.

After the recent orders of Jharkhand High Court and several public grievances top RMC officials are conducting daily inspection of major sites. The officials have warned ward supervisors of stern action if the concerned personnel fail to deliver proper service.

On the other hand, in the wake of ‘Swacchta Sarvekshan 2018’, Deputy Mayor, Sanjiv Vijayawargia has come up with an alternative plan to rationalize the waste management service in his two wards.  The Deputy Mayor on experimental basis has decided to soon handover the task of waste management service to different Self Help Groups (SHGs). According to the Deputy Mayor, if all goes well, approximately 400 women associated with different SHGs will be roped in for sanitation purpose.

Also, the Deputy Mayor has verbally discussed the plan with Municipal Commissioner, Shantanu Kumar Agrahari. All SHGs will be made solely responsible for carrying out the sanitation task in accordance with the plan. Only the monitoring part will be done by the ward councilors said Vijayawargia. The Deputy Mayor is likely to propose the plan in the upcoming RMC Board meeting.
