Impressed by the city of Kandy at Sri lanka, Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargiya is mulling to launch helpline centre for the city denizens and handle the solid waste management sequentially.
The Deputy Mayor had participated in a three day workshop titled ‘Mayor Forum-Urban Transformation ‘at Kandy from May 7 to 9.
Around eight Mayors and four officers were there from 12 countries including India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Philippines, Pakistan, Japan, South Korea and North Korea. Vijayvargiya has decided to suggest the proposals and approve them as well in Corporation’s Board Meeting scheduled tentatively on May 21.
Briefing the media about his plans on Tuesday, he said, “The three stages of solid waste management in our city right from collecting to disposing the waste is a big problem. Foreign nations face only the problem of disposal. To manage this entire solid waste management stages, we will hold a meeting with a Pune based NGO on Wednesday on how to process the programme. It would either be centralised or divided in zones.”
“The tender for this solid waste management will be published
separately like that done for A2Z,” he added.
Referring this plan, Vijayvargiya mentioned that they might deploy rickshaw pullers for around 100 to 200 houses in a locality for collecting door-to-door wastes. “The monthly payment given by each home for garbage collection will be the fixed salary of these pullers,” said the Deputy Mayor.
Focusing on the helpline launch, he recollected his visit to Kandy and Sri lanka’s capital city Colombo where a centre named ‘May I Help You’ works on the direction of Mayor. “If such a centre as single window system begins here, RMC will hopefully solve the problems of residents within a week. It will be a secretariat development and will tell the accountability of RMC, he said.
The Deputy Mayor was pleased with the cooperation of Sri lankan citizens in keeping the city clean. He highlighted on presentations given by representatives of all the
participating nations.
