The representatives of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) today held a meeting with the Urban Development (UD) department on the proposed sewerage and drainage system for the capital.

Significantly, the Japanese delegation has sought permission for conducting survey of the city to prepare a detailed plan for putting a sewerage system in place. The agency is likely to sign an agreement with the Ranchi Municipal Corporation tomorrow. “The agreement for survey will be signed by tomorrow,” said Secretary Urban Development Ajay Kumar Singh

The Japanese team has demanded debt sustainability certificate from the State government before sanctioning loan for the ambitious project. The certificate would be submitted to the central government by JICA. The project would cost around Rs 685 crore.

“We have said that in next 15 days we will communicate the State government’s decision to them,” added Singh. Singh maintained it will take one year before the project could be implemented on the ground.
