The brand-new office of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) was inaugurated on Monday. Padma Shri recipient Ashok Bhagat, Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth and former Urban Development Minister CP Singh were the chief guests on the occasion.
Located at Kutchery Road, the day’s proceedings started with the Mayor Asha Lakra and Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijaywargiya performing the grehpraveshpuja as per the rituals. Municipal Commissioner, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, ward councillors and other officials were also present on the occasion.
“The new office is very nice and we are thankful to Raghubar Das for giving us the funds to make it. The design is beautiful and we also had some suggestions to make in it. Ranchi being the State capital, this building is best suited for the people of the city and the officials and employees of RMC. We have shifted to the new premises and gradually all services will be provided from here. In the previous office all meetings and media briefings were conducted in the same hall where as now separate rooms have been made for this purpose,” said the Mayor.
The G+8 building is complete with state- of- the- art facilities and has four lifts. The ground floor has various departments for any enquiries. Offices of the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner are located on the first floor. The first floor also has a conference hall for about 30 people, a meeting hall with the ward councillors with a seating capacity of around 150 people and a courtroom.
Cabins of the Deputy Mayor, Deputy Municipal Commissioners and other officials are on the second floor. The third, fourth, sixth and seventh floors will have offices of the various departments. Office of the NULM is situated on the fifth floor.
The eighth floor has a big conference hall with a capacity of around 500 people. The fifth floor will also have a canteen which will soon be functional.
“Due to shortage of space earlier the Deputy Municipal Commissioner and Assistant Municipal Commissioner had their offices in a separate building. Departments like the water board were also located in a different building. But now all officials and departments will be present under one roof,” said an official of the RMC requesting anonymity.
The building has been constructed in a time span of over three years while the construction and furnishing of the building has cost around Rs 35 crore.
