RMC gears up to quench thirst of Ranchiites

Published on:

As underground water is receding fast and Ranchi is slowly turning into dry zone the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has awaken just on time and initiated measures to strengthen supply system for water in different localities. Scarcity of water started much earlier as wells and deep borings getting dry were reported even before the onset of summer.

The RMC will put up water tank at 44 locations marked as dry zone due to depleted water table and is likely to purchase additional water tankers to supply water. As many as 10 tankers of the capacity of 2000-litres and 6000-litres will be purchased by the municipal corporation. A deep boring at Harmu is also in pipeline to supply water to arid zones.

“Water supply usually begins in the month of April but this time we have decided to keep ourselves ready to ensure supply if need is felt earlier. We will also dig a deep borewell at Harmu to meet requirements of water,” said Mayor, Asha lakra.

Notably, reports of wells and deep borewells getting dry have been reported from different localities of the capital that signaled tough summer that compounds problems of water availability for Ranchi which is awaiting completion of ambitious drinking water project linking Rukka to the city.

Meanwhile, the RMC standing committee also discussed budgets prepared for the financial year 2015-16.The estimated budget of RMC has been projected as Rs 848.09-crore under two heads, Fund for Central Government Sponsored Scheme (Rs 621.35-crore) and Revenue from own source, Revenue & Capital Gains from State government (Rs 226.74-crore). The municipal corporation has estimated revenue generation (Rs 50.8972-lakh) by executing projects from its end in the financial year 2015-16.

Incidentally, computerization of ward offices is also on cards. The process is a part of paperless work campaign that enchanted authorities at the municipal corporation. The standing committee has suggested equipping each ward office with computer to do away with cumbersome documentation process.

“That is in plan as we want ward offices to address residents concerns expeditiously and also want to set a person free from the burden of carrying loads of paper to the municipal office for any work. The system will enter details of the problem which can be seen by authorities at RMC,” said Deputy Mayor, Sanjeev Vijyawargiya.

The budget and its provisions will be discussed with the board members after approval of the Standing Committee.
