With Durga Puja just around the corner, Puja Samiti members along with the Town Commissioner Prashant Kumar, Mayor Asha lakra, Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijaywargia including RMC officials brainstormed for maintaining cleanliness during the auspicious occasion in capital city.

From fixing street lightings to deputing additional labourers for keeping the pandals premises clean few major decisions have been chalked out by the civic body members in a meeting conducted on Monday.

According to the list available with RMC, the Capital City will be decked up with 145 small, medium and big pandals this season. “Beside special cleanliness drive, labourers will be deputed according to the area covered by each pandal. Teams have been formed. From October 7 to October 11, additional sweepers will be deployed for carrying out the cleaning work including segregation of wastes from 3 am to 6 am under the special task force supervision,” said Town Commissioner, Prashant Kumar.

For the convenience of the Puja Samiti members, RMC has prepared a special phone directory of all its nodal officers, staffs and have handed it over to the organizing committee members. The capital city has been divided into four zones, comprising minimum twelve staffs for diverse purposes in each zone.

“The directory consists of all the phone numbers of all staffs who all have been given the charges of different departments for managing the Durga Puja. Seven major water reservoirs within urban vicinity have been demarcated too for carrying out immersion. Proper lighting, cleanliness work have been completed at Ranchi lake, line Tank, Doranda Pond, Hatia Dam, Kanke Dam, Jail Pond,” added Kumar.

Mayor Asha lakra has assured that artificial immersion pond will also be created near the main water pools to carry out the immersion rituals this year. However, neither the officials from RMC nor the puja organizing committee members was able to decide the minimum cost of the advertisement hoardings.

Members of puja committee were unhappy with the amount fixed up by the civic body. Officials have figured out Rs1,100 for putting ad hoardings at major routes. lakra on the other hand said that the proposal of ad hoardings cost will be discussed and finalized in the board meeting soon.

Nevertheless, following the guidelines on road safety, potholes must be filled after the festivity gets over. Those putting hoardings at major routes without taking permission from RMC will have to pay hefty fine added Kumar in the meeting.
