After much brainstorming, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has finalised the monthly rate to be incurred upon the owners of street food vans. At present, quite a number of food trucks are stationed alongside the prominent areas including the interior locations within the municipal periphery, paying similar monthly charge to the Civic Body.
“According to the new proposal tabled during the meeting, the rate has been finalised zone-wise. Considering the localities, footfall and other issues, the monthly charge for the street food vans will be decided in accordance to the areas where the food vans are stationed,” said Mayor Asha Lakra during the Standing Committee Meeting organised on Wednesday.
“The street food van owners’ have to pay Rs. 5,000 on a monthly basis, if they have stationed the food vans at busy localities – MG Road, Circular Road, Morhabadi etc while Rs. 2,000 will be charged from those who have placed their food trucks at the localities where the footfall is comparatively low. Similarly, Rs. 1,000 will be charged from those food van owners who would station their food vans at interior locations,” added Lakra.
Besides, the Civic Body has passed a proposal of setting up a dedicated ‘Dog House’ at Ketari Bagan in co-ordination with Hope and Animal Trust – Ranchi. Also, the long-pending proposal of giving reservation to women, differently-abled at the newly constructed vendors’ market got the approval of the Standing Committee members.
The Municipal Corporation has reserved 33 per cent shops for women, differently-abled at Atal Smriti Vendors’ Market. The reserved shops will be allotted through lottery system keeping the base rate. Also, displaced vendors who lost their livelihood during the construction of Ravindra Bhawan have been also considered eligible for getting reservation.
Under the reservation policy, the street vendors will have to make monthly payment for 15 years. Also, 5 per cent increment will be charged annually for those vendors covered under the reservation policy. Moreover, the street vendors are also entitled to pay security money to the Municipal Corporation.
“Over 101 shops on the second floor of the marketing complex have been reserved in accordance to the plan. Also, auction will be done for the Community Hall operation,” Lakra added. Furthermore, in another major decision, providing ease to the public, the Civic Body has decided to reduce the parking charges. For three hours, the two-wheeler owners will pay Rs. 5 for three hours while Rs. 20 will be charged from the owners of four-wheelers.
