Within the completion of first year of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) claimed to have worked for bettering drinking water and sanitation and developing green spaces in the city and will continue in the same direction during the coming years of the project.

Municipal Commissioner Prashant Kumar presented the progress of initiatives taken under the urban rejuvenation project in a press conference to share the achievements of the urban local body during the last one year.

“Improving water supply in the core area of Ranchi covered by RMC has been our concern. Detailed Project Report (DPR) in this direction has been prepared. DPR of a park in Morhabadi has also been prepared and tenders for the same have been floated too. From now on, we will develop one children park every year. Moreover, water supply and parks have been our primary concerns under AMRUT,” Kumar said.

A system for maintaining parks, playgrounds and recreational areas under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode is also on the cards. State level Improvement Plans (SlIP) has been approved by RMC and sent to State Government for their sanction, stated Kumar.

Measures taken to improve the sanitation scenario of the city under AMRUT were also reiterated by the Municipal Commissioner. “To check open defecation, we have sanctioned 3,600 individual household toilets, out of which 2,000 have been completed. We are in the process of approving 6,000 more household toilets,” he said.

The solid waste management is also moving with a swift pace, assured Kumar. “Essel Infratech Pvt ltd has been selected for collection, transportation and scientific disposal of waste from all over the city. The firm will takeover by September this year and will cover most of the wards by October. The mini transfer stations and other required resources will be completed within this time frame,” he added.

On review of building bye-laws, as stipulated by AMRUT guidelines, Kumar said, “The Building Bye-laws for Jharkhand were amended recently, under which rainwater harvesting regulations have been formulated and approved. A single window system for clearance of building permissions has been proposed and will soon be finalised.”

E-governance has been used extensively in the works of RMC, Kumar added. “We have a working website where e-newsletter of RMC is also published. We have digitised the registration of birth and death. Grievance redressal system has been digitised. We are collecting property taxes online, with new provisions allowing online property tax assessment too. Issuing licences and procurements have been joined to the online forum too,” he said.
