A total of eight agendas were discussed in the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) standing committee meeting on May 23. The meeting was chaired by the Mayor Asha Lakra. Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijaywargiyaa, Municipal Commissioner Manoj Kumar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Shankar Yadav and Rajnish Kumar along with 10 ward councilors were also present.

The Mayor first congratulated the frontline warriors as Ranchi entered the orange zone. “In the fight against Covid- 19 it is a great achievement that Ranchi has now entered the orange zone and it will soon be in the green zone as well. Taking this opportunity, I would like to congratulate the officials and cleaners of RMC, district administration, health workers, police personnel and media professionals who have been fighting this battle as Corona warriors. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has guided the country very well in following social distancing norms,” said Lakra.

In the meeting it was decided that in case of contracting the disease all medical expenses will be borne by the civic body for all contractual workers and daily wage earners of RMC inc

luding cleaners, drivers, MPS, MTS in charge and zonal supervisors among others. In case of death, an amount of 10 lakh would also be granted to the dependents.

Owing to the outbreak of Covid-19, for the financial year 2020- 2021 the last date of depositing holding tax has also been extended from June 30 to July 31 and no penalty charges will be levied.

An amount of Rs 11 crore granted by the State government under civic amenities fund has been allotted to the various ward councilors for the year 2020- 2021 which will be used for maintaining the lights, drains and other civic amenities by them.

“RMC has been asking the government funds for water and presently the body has no such funds. Keeping this mind, an amount of Rs 1.5 crore from the civic amenities fund has been transferred for the maintenance and repair of previously installed HYDT, Mini HYDT and hand pumps by RMC,” said the Mayor.

It was also approved that an amount of Rs 1 lakh would be granted to the spouse of the deceased temporary worker Jitendra Kumar who lost his life during the pandemic.

In the meeting it was also decided that a letter would be addressed to the Chief Minister regarding the proposal made by the Deputy Mayor on holding tax paid by the general public for the financial year 2020- 2021. The letter will state that the tax should be waived off for houses which are spread over an area of less than 1000 square feet where as for houses spread over more than 1000 square feet, it should be reduced to 50 per cent.

“The final decision on this proposal will only be taken if the State government agrees to bear the expenses and only after that will it be implement by RMC,” added Lakra.

The official further urged the populace of Ranchi to adhere to social distancing norms and not step out of their houses until necessary as only then will Ranchi come in the green zone.
