RMC competent to carry out sanitation work: Agrahari

After debarring the solid waste management company, Essel Infra from service, Ranchi Municipal Commissioner, Shaantanu Kumar Agrahari has assured that the sanitation service would not be affected during the monsoon session even if the firm fails to deliver in the given time.

With the deployment of additional labourers, utilisation of sophisticated machines, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) Town Commissioner has instructed the in-charges of all departments to chalk out all possible plans to tackle any emergency situation.

At present, 21 wards are being managed by Essel Infra, while rest 34 wards are being handled by RMC. The civic body will depute 200 extra labourers for cleaning up choked drainages in rainy season.

The Town Commissioner has said that the Municipal Corporation is gearing up for a massive cleanliness drive to combat the menace of diseases that generally spread during the monsoon season. Soon, the civic body will also form a team to monitor the sanitation work at different wards.

As per the ward area coverage, labourers will be deployed at each ward. like previous year, the State Capital has been divided into four zones for carrying out cleaning phase-wise in all the 55 wards. Besides, more than 120 vehicles, mechanized cold fogging machines will be engaged in sanitation work.

Notably, during the review meeting of Urban Development, Minister, CP Singh had asked the officials of the civic body to review the work of the concerned agency and fix the deadline for covering all the 55 wards. In a bid to rationalize the present sanitation service, Agrahari cited ultimatum has been issued to Essel Infra to speed-up the task in all the wards covered up under their jurisdiction.

“A proposal is being prepared and will be submitted to Urban Development Department regarding Essel Infra service. As per the proposal, the work of the company has been substandard, so far. If the company, in the days to come, does not perform well as per the agreement signed, besides being blacklisted from RMC, it will be debarred from other Urban local Bodies (UlB) as well,” said the Town Commissioner.

The civic body may take few wards from Essel Infra as well looking at the competency of Municipal Corporation. “Since the company has not been blacklisted yet, the concerned firm will continue for now. As, the company has pleaded that it does not have sufficient human-resources for carrying out the work, so few wards can be taken back from the agency,” Agrahari added.

At present, the solid waste management company has just managed to cover 22 wards since October 2016. According to the survey conducted recently by the Municipal Corporation in collaboration with Essel Infra is bound to cover 2.70 lakh households for keeping the city clean.
