The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has decided new license fees for meat and chicken shop owners. Rs 2000 will be charged annually from the chicken shop owners while Rs4000 per annum is the cost required to be paid by the meat shop owners as per the new charge list. The four pages annexure is also getting ready with all terms and conditions which would be placed in the Board meeting April 25.
Criteria like having a proper non-vegetarian shops on land acquired by the shop owners or valid lease document papers of the property on where the owner has set the shops, photograph of license owner, Aadhaar Card, updated user fee receipts for solid waste are few pre-requisites for getting the license after the recent decision of State government to shutdown all illegal meat shops and slaughter houses across the State.
The civic body will immediately start issuing the provisional licenses to the meat and chicken shop owners for setting up a shop within municipal periphery after the approval of guidelines during the board meeting on April 25. Seeking the ever increasing demands of meat/chicken shop owners to immediately issue license for running a shop, the civic body has taken the decision. The guidelines prepared under the experts’ supervision have completely banned the sale of meat and other non-vegetarian products without valid licenses along the roads.
“Besides getting the environment clearance license from the State Pollution Control Board and in addition ensuring basic arrangements like deep freezer, proper ventilation and taking prior approval from the veterinary doctor before slaughtering animals, proper updated documents have been made mandatory for the licence seekers,” said, RMC, Health Officer, Dr Kiran Kumari.
Similarly, an owner also had to submit an affidavit clearly mentioning from which slaughter house they are bringing the edible non-vegetarian stuffs and need to be tagged up with one slaughter centre. The Municipal Corporation is also planning to set up mini slaughter house within municipal periphery at ten major locations.
“looking at the demands of the meat shop owners who have some distance issue, the civic body will soon set up mini slaughter houses within urban vicinity. Private operators will be invited after notifying the proposal during the board meeting. Here too clauses like water supply, proper place, presence of a veterinary doctor at every mini slaughter centre has been made mandatory. The mini slaughter house will serve the need of shop owners for the time being until a well equipped abattoir at Kanke is ready,” said PRO RMC Naresh Kumar Sinha.
While on the other hand, RMC senior officers have confirmed that in the last week of April the slaughter house at Kanke will be made fully functional as electrification work has been complete and the municipal corporation is just waiting for No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the authority.
“Electrification work is complete whereas the civic body will also get NOC clearance soon. The deputation of veterinary doctor is yet to be ensured by the Municipal Corporation and the work is under process. Beside that a construction company, Narsaria Construction Private limited has done its work and will also maintain the abattoir for the coming two years,” said, Additional Municipal Commissioner Bidyanand Sharma Pankaj.
Notably, earlier there were only 52 valid meat and chicken shops functioning under RMC jurisdiction. There was no provision of abattoir within the urban vicinity and despite the Supreme Court guidelines several meat/chicken shops heedlessly breached the norms and were doing brisk business in the Capital city.
