RMC begins work ahead of monsoons

Although the monsoon will hit the State of Jharkhand in the last week of the months, The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has begun preparations to keep the city clean and disease free during the season.

Like every year RMC is all buckled up for this year too. Plans are all set for implementation when and where needed. Drains are being cleaned up in order to minimize water clogging. In addition to this provisions for rain water harvesting are being made.

“This year eight new motors have been installed at various locations in the city” said Sandeep Kumar, City Manager (SBM CELL). “The main purpose of this is to pull off excessive water due to heavy rains. This will be utterly beneficial for reducing chaos due to monsoons in low lying areas in the city if water does not flow by natural means via drains,” he added.

“Another major development this year is the installation of three new fogging machines. The old fogging machines used to cause a lot of fog but the new ones are water based. This new technology also has an anti-larvae spray imbibed in it. The spray thus kills the possibility of water borne diseases caused by the presence of bacteria and insects in filthy water,” he said.

Another official of the corporation informed that the civil body will deploy more workers to clean the drains in areas that are prone to water-logging. “It is seen every year that drains get clogged in areas such as Lalpur, Kanke Road, Hindpiri, harmu Road, MG Marg and others. This time the RMC plans to keep the drains clean so that the water does not get blocked and create and pond like situation,” he added.

Manish Kumar, a resident of Morhabadi, however quipped, “The RMC is a failed body. I have been watching this for over 20 years that even the posh areas like Kanke Road and main Road turn into ponds after rains filled with dirty water. Thankfully the topography of the city is such that the water automatically goes away due to gradient of the areas. Else, it would have become a nightmare for the residents of the city to stay and commute here.”
