Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is waiting to resume its City Bus services. The civic body is awaiting guidelines to be issued by the district administration to restart the public transport system.
RMC had stopped the bus service in March when the nationwide lockdown was imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus. The civic body has a total of 51 buses which ply the city streets. “A letter had been issued to the district administration in the beginning of July asking for necessary guidelines that need to be followed to resume the service. But RMC has not yet received an answer on the same. Owning to the pandemic the service had been stopped but with life gradually coming back to normal, the service needs to be started for the convenience of the general public,” said an RMC official requesting anonymity.
Presently, out of the 51 buses, the civic body has provided 14 to the Control Room. Out of these nine are being used to ferry cleaning personnel while the remaining five are being used by the health workers in the State capital. Once resumed, social distancing norms and sanitation will be strictly adhered to. For the drivers and conductors masks, gloves and face shields will be provided while for passengers face masks and gloves will be made mandatory.
