The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is said to have warned the Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) of breaching the Bank of Accounts of the public sector entity, if it fails to deposit the holding tax dues. HEC, which is proving unable to pay salaries to its workers, has not paid holding and other taxes to Ranchi Municipal Corporation since 2017.
RMC has calculated that HEC will have to pay Rs 18.29 crore. But despite several notices, HEC has not deposited even a part of the bill. Apart from this, the corporation has also talked about running a campaign against the big defaulters of the city. It has been said on behalf of the corporation that strict legal action will be taken against those who do not deposit the holding tax.
Apart from this, now it has been decided to initiate legal action to freeze the bank accounts of HEC. For this, RMC has also taken legal advice. Under the Jharkhand Municipal Corporation Act, the municipality is entitled to freeze the account of the Municipal Corporation HEC under section 184 (1).
The corporation has sent notice to HEC. It has been said that the old taxes should be deposited at the earliest. An official of RMC said that timely payment will help in speeding up development works in the city. HEC also owes 6 months' salary to the employees, for which payment has not yet been made. For this, the employees are continuously agitating.
