Taking a lesson from the recent incidents of crime Ranchi Railway authorities have finally decided to construct a boundary wall on the southern side of the station.

The decision was taken in the wake of recent untoward incident where three armed muggers taking the advantage of the vast open area alongside the platform number five managed to escape at Ranchi Railway Station after killing a man.

Ranchi Railway’s Division Regional Manager (DRM) Deepak Kashyap announced on Wednesday about the same. He said, “The incident has raised fingers on the department’s security measures. Passenger security has always remained railways prime concern and the department will never comprise with it.”

Sharing information about the project Kashyap added that tenders for the same has been floated by the department and is waiting for the suitable bidder. Once the department comes across a suitable bidder the wall erecting work will be kicked off. A six feet boundary wall will be constructed and above it will be place a two feet wired border.

Moreover, a sum of Rs four crore has also been sanctioned to the department. “The department will leave no stone unturned in ensuring complete security of the passengers,” said Kashyap.

Meanwhile, the department has also decided to increase the general ticket counter from three to nine.  “Within a month as many as new six counters will be set up at Ranchi Railway station. The work for the same is in progress and are expected to complete it on the stipulated time period,” added Kashyap.

looking at the woes of the passengers in commuting from platform number one to four and five respectively, the Footover Bridge that earlier ends at platform number three will now be extended upto platform five. “The work is in process and within a month will be offered to the passengers,” said Kashyap.

Interestingly, a surprise raid for the ticketless travelers will be conducted by the department where the guilty under section 137 can pay a sum of Rs 1000 as a token of fine for the offence or can also be put behind the bars.
