RIMS to re-allot UG hostels today

Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) will be re-allotting hostels to undergraduate (UG) students on Wednesday. After the scuffle between students during the institution’s annual fest, Synergy, the administration had directed students to vacate hostels last month. The fight was created due to ragging of few boys by their seniors.

Some UG students had then taken shelter at Vikas Bharti while others departed for home. The post-graduate (PG), intern and house surgeon students were re-allotted hostels last week through a lottery. Sources maintained the RIMS Director Dr SK Choudhary in consultation with a Magistrate prepared the list of undergraduate students on Monday who are to be allotted in the hostels. Hostel number 1, 2 and 3 are included in this category.

“We will paste the prepared list of UG hostel allotment on Wednesday,” Director Dr Choudhary confirmed. The PG, intern and house surgeon students were allotted hostel number 4, 5, 6 and 7. A notice stating names of these students for the hostel allotment mentioned those whose names are not included have to seek permission from the Director for accommodation in the same.

Staffs at the hostel maintained that though the administration has decided to allot the hostels, most of the hostellers in girls and boys section will be shifting by Holi since the college is closed these days. The festival of Holi is to be celebrated on March 6. A second year UG girl in the Junior Section Hostel said girls are not much affected with the disturbance.

“Even I had to vacate the hostel but I returned to my room after few days. There is a kind of merit under which we do not have to wait for hostel re-allotment,” added the girl. PG, intern and house surgeons were given a deadline of three days to shift to their hostel. On Tuesday, some intern boys were seen taking a sign of relief from the tension of settling in the hostel within the framed deadline.

Meanwhile, the hospital administration is likely to meet parents of the boys who were indulged in the fight leading a tensed atmosphere for other students. Director Dr SK Choudhary has called a meeting with parents of the male students on Wednesday. According to sources, an inquiry will be set against seniors alleged of ragging.
