Based on genetic diseases prevalent in Jharkhand and the relevance of treating these patients in the present context, Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) would be organising a genetic conclave on May 2. The average percentage of genetic patients in Jharkhand is around eight per cent while at national level it is only 3.8 per cent.
“If one member of the family suffers this disease then his entire family is ruined financially, mentally and in social manners. The rest of the members are likely to have this illness. In States like Odisha and Jharkhand patients suffering with congenital haemolytic anaemia is more. Even the doctors avoid looking after the patients. No exact data has been prepared about this gene related syndrome in our State,” informed RIMS Genetic Diseases Research Department Deputy Director Dr Amar Verma. “For awareness among the local doctors and people suffering with this pain, we had been trying to organise this conclave for past six months,” added Dr Verma.
Eight renowned specialists have been invited at this seminar across the country including Padma Shree Awardee Dr K Prasad from the Neurology department of All India Institute of Medical Science. Dr J Seth from Indian Institute of Medical Genetics at Ahmedabad would also be speaking during this programme.
Dr Verma said, “In Jharkhand, National Rural Health Mission is working on the study of this genetic disease at Kharsawan.”
Governor Syed Ahmed would be unveiling this programme after which the newly constructed auditorium at RIMS is to be inaugurated by Ahmed.
RIMS Superintendent has issued a letter to all the doctors and staffs to participate at this programme without bothering their working hours and patients. As per sources, the biometric attendance machine installed at RIMS would also begin working from May 2.
