After providing the much needed reprieve at least for the attendants of patients admitted on RIMS premises, the Raen Basera there is yet to serve completely. The shelter home despite being ready physically lacks in some important basic facilities making it largely dysfunctional.
Attendants of the patients living at the shelter home are reluctant to utilise their small bedrooms for kitchen purpose, as the kitchens situated at different floors either remain locked or are drenched in water. Similarly rooms on the third floor remain locked as they are not equipped with the basic facilities such as power, water, sanitation etc which creates problem for patient attendants.
“We do get rooms easily here and the cost is also very nominal but the problem is that all rooms are not well equipped with the fans and cots. I am here for my mother’s treatment and now I have to make my own arrangement. Sleeping inside room in summer without ceiling fan is miserable,” said Uttam Kumar, a patient attendant from latehar.
The much needed shelter home at RIMS was inaugurated in August 2015 but attendants residing in the Raen Basera even have to make their own arrangement for drinking water as there is no proper water connection inside the premises. During the inauguration it was promised that the shelter home will cater to the need of public with essential arrangement like fans, mattresses.
As many as 63 rooms are there at Raen Basera. The attendants of patients can hire the room at the nominal price of Rs 150 per day. The Raen Basera at RIMS premises is being maintained and managed by the private housekeeping company Annapurna Utility Services, the representative of the company Krishna Kumar, said, “We are helpless, as we have asked the attendants to utilise kitchen but some of them do not care. As far as facilities are concerned, we too become helpless as for many requirements, the agency has to consult the hospital administration and get there approval”.
Undoubtedly, Raen Basera has provided a sigh of relief to all the attendant of patients who comes to RIMS for medical assistance from distant areas, especially those who cannot afford expensive lodging. However, absence of basic amenities inside the shelter home deviate its prime purpose of serving people.
“We try to manage things in limited resources and we are also trying to depute few more personnel to check the nuisance inside the shelter home. All necessary requirements soon will be completed after receiving assistance from the hospital administration,” stated, C Bhattacharya, Chairperson, Annapurna Utility Service.
